This tool lets you assign a letter to the members of a group, which is important for the stats and the Excel output.
Simply select an object or group letters, select the Assign Letters command in the LED menu, and then type each letter in sequence. It will automatically move to the next letter as you type, and the current letter is highlighted with control handles.
It will cycle back to the left after you press the key for the final right hand letter. To exit the tool, just click on the Layout Tool.
You can also use the left and right arrow keys to move between letters.
It is important to use this function when you import artwork, as the software doesn't know the letters. Without using Assign Letters, you may have each letter labeled "v" for "Vector Object," which is not very descriptive in the statistics.
Assign Letters is also part of the Data Clean Up Tool for imported artwork. This should be the last operation in the tool.
If you type in text using the Text Tool, then the software does know the letters, and you don't have to use Assign Letters.
If you want to name a logo or graphic something other than an individual letter, then please see Show Letters and Stats for an alternate naming method.
