With new LED module options come new layouts options as well, and in LED Wizard 8 we are introducing Grid Mode. This is a layout option that positions modules on a grid, whether it be a "perfect" grid with the same X & Y spacing, or different spacing.
Grid Mode can be used in a variety of applications with a variety of modules.
The key values used to detemine the Grid are already familiar from the PowerFlow property bar:
- Spacing - the linear spacing from module to module
- Run Gap - the spacing between runs
- Clearance - the distance from the modules along an axis to the return, normally half the Run Gap
Populating sign cabinets and very large letters and graphics is often done in rows of LEDs, either vertical, horizontal, or angled.
Some examples of the kinds of modules that you might consider for Grid Mode include:
- "Pixel" modules - unlike most modules, pixel modules are designed to be viewed directly. They are most often either laid out as an outline of a shape, or as a grid to fill in a shape.
The kinds of applications that you might consider for Grid Mode include.
-
Basic Cabinets - rectangular cabinets are often laid out in a perfect grid.
-
Cloud Signs - many cloud signs have irregular edges, but can be cleanly laid out with modules on a perfect grid.
-
Very Large Letters - the layout option of multiple runs tracing the shape of the letters might not be the most efficient at very large sizes.
To create a layout using Grid Mode, go into Powerflow and then click on the Grid Mode icon in the Powerflow proprety bar. The preview guide paths will change to the grid, and each intersection indicates the center position of each module.
To change the horizontal dimension of the grid, edit the Spacing field value. To change the vertical dimension of the grid, change the Run Gap field value. To change the space from the return/edge of the cabinet, change the Clearance value.
If you want a Clearance of 0, then you can use the Full Coverage Grid Mode option.
When you go into Grid Mode, an actual Grid is added to the layout. You may not be familiar this option, but you can create a Grid on any layout with any vertical and horizontal value. Snap to Grid is an option
